Discovering the Charms of North Chungcheong Province

Hello. I spent my last weekend traveling around North Chungcheong Province. Located in the central part of South Korea, this region is a beautiful blend of nature and culture. Here are some of the places I visited during my trip.

 

 

 

Cheongju City

Cheongju is the capital city of North Chungcheong Province, where traditional and modern culture coexist. Here's what I explored in Cheongju City:

• Cheongju City Museum: This museum offers an insight into the history and culture of Cheongju City. Exhibits at the Cheongju City Museum include Cheongju's famous Cheongju Onggi (earthenware) and Cheongju dolls, as well as relics and records of famous figures from Cheongju. I was particularly impressed by the Cheongju Onggi, unique ceramics made from Cheongju's clay, and Cheongju dolls dressed in traditional clothing. Admission is free and the museum is closed on Mondays.
• Cheongju Culture Street: This is a vibrant street in the heart of Cheongju City, filled with cultural and artistic events. I attended the Cheongju Film Festival held on Cheongju Culture Street. As the largest film festival in North Chungcheong Province, it screens a variety of films from both domestic and international genres. I particularly enjoyed the independent films and short films.

 

Boeun County

Boeun County, located in the southeastern part of North Chungcheong Province, is rich in nature and culture. Here's what I visited in Boeun County:

• Songnisan National Park: Songnisan Mountain, one of Korea's famous mountains standing at 1,058m high, is the focal point of this park. Songnisan National Park offers splendid natural scenery. The park has various hiking trails and tourist spots. I visited Beopjusa Temple and Cheongun Valley in Songnisan National Park. Beopjusa is a representative temple of Songnisan with deep historical and cultural significance, founded during the Goryeo Dynasty. Cheongun Valley is a beautiful valley in Songnisan with clear, cool water and lush forests.
• Boeun Onggi Village: This village is dedicated to crafting and displaying Boeun's special product, Boeun Onggi. Boeun Onggi is a unique ceramic made from Boeun's clay and water. In Boeun Onggi Village, you can watch the production process of Boeun Onggi or even experience it yourself. I tried my hand at making Boeun Onggi. The process of kneading the clay, stamping, and applying glaze was both fun and challenging. The Boeun Onggi that I made became a special souvenir for me.

My trip to North Chungcheong Province, exploring Cheongju City and Boeun County, was filled with beautiful natural and cultural experiences. I learned, saw, and enjoyed a lot during this trip. I highly recommend you to explore North Chungcheong Province. Thank you!
